Trying New Foods in South Africa

Trying New Foods in South Africa

A true holiday in South Africa will include the tasting of South African dishes. Some may seem quite strange but South Africans really do know how to pick their flavours.

Babotie is one type of food that is certainly worth a try. It’s made mainly of minced meat and egg while there are various spices added, and the spices will depend on individual making the dish. It’s a meal that goes down extremely well with rice and a glass of wine and we recommend you try it if you ever visit South Africa.

Mopane worms are quite out of the ordinary for anyone in Europe, but they actually taste great, similar to beef jerky. Mopane worms are actually caterpillars and they can be cooked in various sauces and spices, and they’re a bit of a bush delicacy. You should at least try one of these if you’re out in the wilds because you might actually be surprised with the taste.
